This is my favorite bowl for making bread.
Kind of homely isn't it? It was my grandmothers and she probably got it from her mother. How old is it? Darned if I know. It's older than I am, anyway.
It's solid, it's got thick walls, the bottom is flat so you can start kneading while the dough is still in the bowl, and it holds the warmth while the dough rises. It's an old friend and there isn't a glitzy atom in it. Kind of like me, actually. The non glitzy part at least.
There is a company name on the bottom but I haven't been able to make out what it is.
Has anyone seen stoneware like this?

Generations of simplicity, utility, and love of fresh bread are in that one unassuming bowl. Beautiful.

I love this bowl simply for the simplicity of it. The memories and hands that have used this bowl over the generations make it priceless! (Hugs) Indigo
Back East, you see bowls like this in antique shops. Yuppies use them as "decor"--hahaha. I have a favorite bowl too. Found it at a tag sale for a few cents. Some fifties thing with a faded pink flower on it.
Hey, could you post a pic of the bottom of the bowl? Maybe one of us will recognize the maker's mark. It's a beautiful bowl. --Cin
